-Background-
Though suspected to be a sailor's by-blow, little was known about Sadowi's early life other than he was a friend or servant to House Agano of Horseshoe Bay and an apprentice fisher to Matrose. House Agano had a strong naval tradition, but when its son Sakawa left for the region's Naval Academy, Sadowi still ran down the surf barehooved as officer training was reserved for nobility and its sons.
Some form of escape came with the arrival of the light cruiser Codrington. Sadowi and others, mostly merchants or fishers such as himself, were impressed and trained by a Master Threnith for the ship's marine contingent. Technically a marine, Sadowi also worked as a powder boy where he wove between cannon, cargo, and hammocks in courier missions into the dark and dank magazines deep below the waterline.
Sadowi, aboard the Codrington, participated in many patrol and commerce raiding missions against other countries, though mostly against Saddle Arabia, with one noteworthy boarding action of an Arabian frigate whose crew considered themselves Barbary corsairs reborn. Saddle Arabians were weak within the confined quarters of their ship, where their fear of damaging their own vessel and of the elements, forced them to attempt to stand their ground and fight hoof to hoof, effectively compromising their advantages in agility. Sadowi and the other marines split after taking the upper deck, hearing about a group that fought their way to a "Captain Jack Sparkles," but he killed himself before he could be made prey. The group Sadowi was in slew their way into the ship's hold, while just the miasma of flesh sapped their strength and morale, driving some to their knees, but it was nothing compared to the sight. Pegasus and gryphon prisoners had no wings, only gaping, infected holes. Some hung on chains from the ceiling. The floor was crushed bone. Most were missing limbs. All were alive, for live flesh did not decay so soon. There were wholly intact prisoners, probably newer. A look into their eyes said...nothing. They could probably see, but those eyes were sightless.
It did nothing to sober those marines, only reinforce their hatred for those dogs.
While Codrington might have been distinguished as the last ship of Equestria to be awarded prize money, that is, awarded extra monetary compensation for the capture of enemy vessels, her increasingly obvious obsolescence eventually drew the attention of her homeport's naval board and had her decommissioned. Despite her rusty hull, overworked pumps endlessly pushing and bailing water, and her impending fate of becoming recycled, she put on a magnificent sight as she was paid off, flying long flags from her masts symbolising her many years of service, while in full dress, and beside her, in dry dock, her successor, the Brooklyn, was about to be launched for sea trials.
It never happened. Instead, the Cordyceps Brain Infection happened. In the initial panic, citizens, infected or otherwise, allegedly drawn to the alleged mystical quality of the Codrington, attempted escape by racing towards the ancient, famed ship, still moored, trampling and killing those who got in each others' ways, yet many still successfully clambered onto her slippery deck. The infected turned and attacked, and in the ensuring melee, the light cruiser Codrington sank at her moorings, with all hands, paws, hooves, and talons.
It would have been a few more weeks and up to a few more months before Brooklyn was fitted out and commissioned into service, so Codrington's captain and crew were allowed paid leave. No one knows what became of them, whether they or any survived or not. No one knows what became of Brooklyn, for the dry dock, and Horseshoe Bay proper, is empty.
But Sadowi still wanders the plains, deserts, and dales of a shattered Equestria, where battle lines have become walls, walls he is certain he will never be on the opposite side of. Not that there was anything wrong with the outside, minus the infected, well, no, there was plenty wrong with not being in a quarantine zone. Everyone else shoots at you to relieve you of your possessions, useless or otherwise.
And now so does Sadowi, tightening the straps of his harness that holds his swords and other equipment.
-Personality and Characteristics-
Nowhere near sophistication, Sadowi is direct, ruthless, and cold, but once upon a time he was rather gullible and a fun-loving guy, often finding himself in odd predicaments, traits that might resurface, should one know how to reach them. Having suffered through too many fistfights, almost getting shot's, and the short ends of pipes or two by fours, he has no second thoughts on killing others on sight.
He might be classified as a Raider, but he has no team nor is he a part of one, and will attack other Raiders on sight.
-Powers and Abilities-
A marine, Sadowi has great proficiency, if not experience, with many weapons and disciplines, notably the boarding hook (for severing tentacles of krakens), the harpoon (for dealing with any leviathan), and unarmed combat, though he is best with a lever-action repeating rifle and prefers the sword above all. With a career on a small ship that loved the waves but rolled miserably and more than eight years of subsisting on the frontiers of Equestria, crumbling his humanity, he is unpredictable and agile, more or less an organic gyroscope. His gallop is fast, but his reflex is equal to 2.7x108 meters per second and he sees in bullet time.
-(Dueling forms)
---Ataru: emphasises erratic, almost unbalanced acrobatics to outmaneuver and confuse the opponent and their momentum to deal powerful blows or to flow into the next steps.
---Aegis: utilises precise blocks, short-step dodges, and parries to dizzy or tire the opponent before striking. Very useful in confined areas and against opponents of all sizes, but with his slight frailty he tends to avoid this form.
---Parting the Silk: an elegant form most commonly used to practice balance. He always begins with this to transition to others.
He is a great swimmer.
He is ambidextrous.
He could stand, walk, and fight on his hind legs.
-Equipment-
Sadowi is always been seen with his mismatched pairing of a dao and a talwar. The dao, christened Goldnail, has cloth bands wrapped over an ivory hilt to compensate for the illogic of ivory that will warp and twist from sweat or blood. It's a dao and not a prissy katana nor a barbaric machete.
Sometimes called the sinkhook due to its distinctive, barbed blade and fishing wire guard, this weapon bears little resemblance to the talwar it was originally cut down from. Attached to another fishing line wrapped around his foreleg, he wields the sinkhook as an off-hoof weapon, a fishing hook, a grappling hook, and a kunai.
inspired/totally copied from the Sinkhook of Infinity Blade II
Sometimes, usually only when hunting for food, he will be seen with a Winchester Model 1895, part of the family of "The Gun That Won the West," given to him by his master Lord Agano many years ago.
